Pokémon Red/Blue/Green Walkthrough

by HiKaizer

Starting the Game

You will start off with Prof. Oak asking your name. You have a choice of some preset names or your own one. You will also need to name your rival. After this he will give a little speech. When he is finished go to your P.C, choose the computer with your name and select withdraw, you should have a potion in there. Withdraw it and go out of your house and walk into the grass, the Prof. will run up to you and take you to his Lab. He will then give you one of  his Pokémon and you can choose from Charmander, Squirtle and Bulbasaur. If you want the game easy choose Bulbasaur as he is effective against the first three gyms and gets a good range of grass techniques. Squirtle has an advantage over the first gym and gets a good set of water moves, good for intermediate players. Charmander will have a hard time against Brock without assistance but he is a strong Pokémon. He has powerful moves and and is easy to raise, but if you want the hard route choose him.

After you have chosen your partner your rival will choose the starter Pokémon left which has an elemental advantage over yours. When you try to leave Oak's lab your rival will challenge you. This is where you may need the potion. If your HP is low use the potion, but only if your Pokémon is in danger of fainting. After the battle go home and talk to your Mom, she will heal your Pokémon. Now go out and go into the grass. Talk to the people you meet as they can give you information if this is your first time playing. The first person you see should give you a potion for free. Just head up to Viridian City, you will encounter wild Pokémon in the grass now. These will be relatively weak and you will have no trouble beating them. Hopefully you will gain at least one level.

Viridian City

When you reach Viridian City go to the Pokémon Center, you can tell it from the others because it says Poké on it. Talk to the Nurse at the desk, she will heal you for free. This is the same all over the Pokémon world. Now head to the building labelled Mart. The person at the counter will ask you to give a parcel to Prof.Oak. Head back to Pallet now, you can get there by walking over the ledges. Now go to Prof.Oak and give him the parcel. Your rival will now walk in and the Prof. will give you a speech and then you will receive the Pokédex. This will tell you information on Pokémon you have caught and will tell you where you can catch Pokémon you have seen and/or caught. His aide will give you 6 Pokéballs when you try to leave, these are used for catching Pokémon. Now head back up to Viridian and try to go up still, the man who had previously blocked your path will now let you pass and show you use your Pokéballs. Like he says you will need to weaken them first so try and get them down to critical HP.

Viridian Forest

Now head up and into Viridian Forest. Here is a place overflowing with Bug Pokémon. You will see Caterpie and Metapod, Weedle and Kakuna. Also sometimes here you will see Pikachu, and unless you live on the moon or at the bottom of the sea you will know what it looks like. Pikachu is an electric type and catching one is a very good idea because it will destroy flying and water types so it won't be too hard to train. If you have a Bulbasaur or a Squirtle make sure they know Bubble or Leech Seed. If you have a Charmander you will need to catch a Caterpie or Metapod and evovle it into a Butterfree. If you have Red if you find a Caterpie consider yourself lucky because I (HiKaizer) have yet to see one in my 144 hour game. (However, I, Jedi_Amara, have seen a few.) Otherwise level Charmander up to at least Lv.12 before entering Pewter gym. Viridian Forest is easy to get through just beat the trainers on your way and if you need to heal go to the Pokécenter.

Pewter City

Now you are in Pewter City check out the Gym. Unlike Viridian this Gym is open, inside you will find a trainer with a Sandshrew and a Diglett. Beyond him is the leader Brock, who has a Geodude and an Onix. Do not forget to stock up on Potions and Pokéballs from the Mart. Upon defeating Brock you will recieve the Boulderbage. Now you can leave Pewter City, head on through the trainers and head up to the Pokécenter. Heal your Pokémon here, also a shady guy will sell you a Magikarp for 500$. This is a good investment because while Magikarp are crap it evolves into Gyarados which next to Mewtwo and Dragonite is the Strongest Pokémon around. Just place it in the top of your party and let it get EXP. Later, you will be able to catch Magikarp with a Rod. Now you are ready to head into...

Mount Moon

This is a maze like Viridian forest only you can end up in dead ends. So you should explore and level up. Try to have a Pikachu, your starter Pokémon and a Pidgey above Lv.12.  To go the right way go towards the left as soon as you enter. You should end up on a bit elevated above the rest. Also if you go right from the entrance you will find a guy guarding two Pokéballs. One of these has a Rare Candy in it which will instantly Level Up one of your Pokémon. This is especially useful so look out for these.

In this cave you will find Geodude, Onix, Paras and Zubat, and, rarely a Clefairy. Catch one of these as these are very rare. Also outside you will see Jigglypuff, these are rare also so try and catch one. Eventually you should reach a guy with two fossils behind him, save before you fight him. He is not too tough and you should beat him. Now you can choose one the fossils. The helix fossil will later be used to revive an Omanyte and the dome fossil will revive a Kabuto. Now continue on, from here it is fairly straight-forward and you should exit Mt Moon. Now head to your right and you will enter....

Cerulean City

Head to the Pokécenter and then head up beyond the city. You probably will not be strong enough to take on Misty unless you are using a Bulbasaur or a Pikachu. Beat your rival and he will bag you and go away (YAY!). He can be a little tricky to beat. After this head up after healing, you will fight a group of trainers and then a Rocket. Your prize is a Nugget. Continue onto Bill's lighthouse and you will meet Bill himself, or do you? That is not a Pokémon standing there but Bill himself and he has somehow transmogrified himself, follow what he says and then you turn himself back into a human. As thanks he will give you a S.S Anne ticket so you can attend their festival. Note if you are unable to do this you may have to beat Misty, a friend of mine using the same version had to when I didn't. After you collect the ticket or before as the case may be, it's time to fight Misty. A water type user, her team consists of a Staryu and a Starmie. Use a lightning or a grass Pokémon to defeat her. If you don't have one Red Players can pick up an Oddish in the grass to the north while Blue players may find Bellsprout.
