Capturing the 3 Legendary Dogs (G/S/C except Suicune in C)
by Jedi_Amara
Here's a quick guide on how to capture the 3 Legendary Dogs, Entei, Raikou and Suicune. Hope it helps! Remember, you can't do this stuff until you free the dogs from the Burned Tower in Ecruteak City.
1. Train up a Pokémon so it has a reliable sleep-attack like Sleep
Powder, Hypnosis or Sing, and so it is very fast. You might need to give
it some vitamins. Put it at the top of your party. Stock up on Ultra
Balls or Fast Balls as well. All the dogs are at level 40, so your
Pokémon should be at least that. A really good Pokémon to use is a
Scyther or Scizor with the False Swipe move (it ensures the dog won't
faint). If you attach the Quick Claw to it, it'll be even faster. (I
have Quick Claw on my Scyther anyway - I take it everywhere with me.)
Also, you might want to have some Max Repels.
2. The dogs change place when you do. Go on a route, I like using two
routes next to each other like 30 and 31. Keep walking back and forth
between the route and the place next to it, and go in the grass.
Eventually, you will end up in the same place as a dog.
3. When you see a dog, immediately put it to sleep. Attack it, but make
sure it doesn't faint. If you need to, use a move like False Swipe to
ensure this.
4. It will probably flee or use ROAR when it wakes up. That's OK. It retains the
damage you did to it when you meet it again. Now that you've seen it,
you can track it using the Pokédex. It still changes area when you change
place, but it can't jump from one side of Johto to the other so if you
want you can have a Pokémon that can FLY in your party and use that. If
you go into its Pokédex entry, you can go to the AREA section and see
where it is. If it's in the same place as you are, well, great! Just
don't change areas - use a Max Repel to get rid of weaker Pokémon, and
walk around in the grass until it turns up.
5. Now you've found it, you'll notice that the damage you did to it the
last time you met it is still there. All the dogs retain damage to their
HP, so try to get in an attack or two each time you see them. When it's down to red HP, and you figure you can probably catch it,
start throwing Ultra Balls or Fast Balls at it when you see it. (Great
Balls seem to work fine too, but you won't have much luck with
PokéBalls.) Just make sure it
doesn't faint, as that means you won't have another chance at it.
This is a very slow procedure, and requires a lot of patience. But if
you have the patience, you'll like having the dogs! Have fun!
