Pokémon Advanced Generation, Episode 1

Get The Show On The Road!

Written by Optic for The Anime Network; used with permission

The season starts off with a character called May, who is ten years old. She is on her way to meet her friend Prof. Birch to get her first Pokémon in Little Root Town. She doesn't seem to like Pokémon, but prefers travelling. A Duskull then scares May and she rides into a tree accidently. She looks over a cliff and looks towards Little Root Town and is astounded at the view.

Meanwhile, back on the ship where Ash is on, he holds onto Pikachu who is suffering from a severe fever. Team Rocket has arrived in the Hoenn region too. Jessie is deep in thought, and speaking hypothetically a lot.

Ash tries to find a Pokémon Centre, but cannot find one. He phones Prof. Birch's laboratory, and his colleague Joshua answers saying that Prof. Birch is out conducting a field experiment and tells Ash to stay put. After some time, Prof. Birch arrives. He notices that Ash's Pikachu is unable to release electricity efficiently. It was probably caused by Team Rocket's electro-magnet in the last episode. Pikachu is then confused by the high fever and randomly discharges electricity. They hurry on to the laboratory.

Inside, an application is set on Pikachu. The device attempts to discharge all of Pikachu's electricity, but it becomes overloaded. Frightened, Pikachu jumps out the window and escapes. Ash pursues Pikachu on foot. Team Rocket wonders what's up with Pikachu. Prof. Birch says that Pikachu could explode as his internal electricity is too high. They therefore split up to find Pikachu.

Meanwhile, May arrives at the laboratory. Joshua tells May to stay put, but she goes off to find him. Ash and Prof. Birch continue to look for Pikachu but Prof. Birch accidently slips and falls over and is chased by three Poochyena. May finds Prof. Birch and sends out Mudkip, a water Pokémon. Prof. Birch then orders it to use Water Gun on the Poochyena (it uses it on her first). He then thanks May and continues to look for Pikachu.

Pikachu, extremely weak sees Ash as an enemy from his point of view. He becomes angered and shocks Ash with electricity. As Ash tries to approach Pikachu, he releases electricity. Frightened, Pikachu runs off and goes over a cliff. "Pikachu!" cries Ash as he leaps to try and get Pikachu. With one hand he grabs onto a branch and holds Pikachu with the other.

Prof. Birch throws a rope, but Pikachu continues to shock Ash. He then bites Ash's arm hard. Ash braces the pain, and smiles. "Don't worry Pikachu, you're going to be alright," he assures Pikachu. When they reach the top of the cliff, Pikachu no longer is confused. "Cha..." cries Pikachu as he licks where he bit Ash previously.

Team Rocket appears, but during the motto, Jessie says "What's the point..." Their machine grabs Pikachu and attempts to absorb it's electricity. Pikachu's output surprises everyone. May's bicycle is barbecued from all the electricity. Eventually the machine is overloaded from Pikachu's incredible output and Team Rocket go blasting off again.

Exhaused, Pikachu collpases. Back at the laboratory, they discover that Team Rocket's machine absorbed all of Pikachu's unneeded electricity. May introduces herself and is able to choose her first Pokémon. Prof. Birch sends out Treecko, but May finds it creepy. Prof. Birch then sends out Mudkip but May dislikes it, because it didn't listen to her before. Finally, Prof. Birch sends out Torchic, May likes it and she chooses it as her first Pokémon.

May is frustrated that her bicycle is still ruined. She peeks through the opening in the door of Ash's room and discovers Ash saying "Pikachu, please be okay..." continuously. Pikachu then wakes up and happily nudges Ash's face crying out "Cha..." Ash opens his eyes and hugs Pikachu. "I'm so happy..." says Ash. May then smiles and closes the door.

Outside, May sends out her Torchic and says good morning to it. Ash walks outside and he and Pikachu yawn. May walks up to him and asks if his Pikachu is alright. Pikachu then leaps off Ash's shoulder and runs up to Torchic. Together they play around, Pikachu's first friend in the Hoenn Region.

Prof. Birch says that Ash and May will have to register for the Hoenn league at the nearest Pokémon Centre. The closest town where they should be able to find one is Oldale Town. May and Ash decide to go together to the town as May dislikes walking alone as it makes her nervous. Prof. Birch thinks it's a good idea as they can look after one another.

So with Pikachu fully recovered, Ash and May can begin their journey together as they head for Oldale Town and the nearest Pokémon Centre. Together they're sure to discover new Pokémon and new friends as well. One thing's for sure, even new adventures lie just ahead.
