The Pokémon Peninsula > Counters and Stats No site's complete without counters and statistics so the webmaster can see who's visiting their site. Here are a few free services, reviewed for you XD. FastCounter is a good service. I found it a bit tricky to sign up, but once that's done, it's easy to use. It's a nice, thin counter, in a choice of black, blue, red or green. You have to have a text link to FC somewhere on your site; it's included in the counter code, but can be edited out. It looks streamlined and professional, and fits almost any site. Site Meter is a free stats thing. It records where people come to your site from, how long they stay for, traffic, and stuff like that. For the free version, you have to display a symbol on your site. You can choose from a large symbol, a small symbol or a counter. If you buy the paid version, you can have the invisible option. The paid version also offers more features. Even if you only use the free version, it's an invaluable resource as you can check your visitors' browser support for CSS, DHTML, PNG, Javascript etc., and adjust your content to suit this. OK Counter is a nice service with the largest range of kawaii counters you will find anywhere, including a heap of Anime and manga ones. Counters display visitors today as well as total visitors. However, you're required to sign up to one of its sponsors every six months (or pay), and this is very annoying. Best for personal sites, art sites or for sites that provide things like layouts; not so good for professional sites. Ultimate Counter is really the ultimate counter system. There are literally hundreds of different counter styles to choose from, or you can select to have a random style each time. Ads: a large, colourful "Ultimate Counter" button underneath the counter. Among the huge number of things Bravenet offers is a counter. It's one of the most popular counters for free websites. However, as with so many other Bravenet things, it tends to be a bit over-the-top and the "powered by Bravenet" part isn't the most attractive. |
